Rocky Run Conservation Area

About Rocky Run Conservation Area

The Rocky Run Conservation area is a small but beautiful spot on the Indian Head River. Rocky Run is the name of the stream that flows along the Pembroke-Hanson border on the property. There are beautiful views of both the Indian Head River and Rocky Run Brook. Narrow footpaths extend up and down ridges along the water's edge.

Access & Hiking Routes

The Rocky Run parking lot is located just before the bridge on State Street in Hanson at the Hanson-Hanover town line just down from Myette's Store on Broadway, in Hanover. There is a short trail that runs along the old Phillips Tack Factory ruins down by the river and the remains of the old dam that is accessed directly from the parking area.

For a longer hike and access to the Indian Head Trail Loop, cross the bridge and turn left onto the trail. You can follow the red slash trail marks of the Indian Head River Loop Trail and continue into Pembroke and the Tucker Preserve, or you can follow the trail to Rocky Run and turn left to loop back along the bank of the Indian Head River past several ruins of the industrial past of the area. Kiosks with maps and information are located at the parking lot and at the trailhead across the bridge.
